Jacaratia mexicana. Bonete

$12.00

Well known throughout central to southern Mexico. The bonete is not only a much-appreciated wild fruit, it’s a highly ornamental oddity that deserves more attention. The fruits have a rich complex sweetness and a wild shape I can only compare to 1950’s pop culture rocket ships. The wings on the fruits are observed being used by birds as a perch while they peck into the fruit to eat the sweet pulp. This papaya relative comes from seasonally dry forests and will go drought and winter deciduous, watering should be kept to a minimum during winter.
