This sapote relative is native to the subtropical to temperate regions of the south west USA. fruits form on small shrub trees with delicious sweet and milky fruits. Very drought tolerant. Even fruiting with minimal water. There is a gum or resin in the trunk that can chewed as a gum like many members of the family.
