This incredible and very rare papaya with otherworldly beauty required extensive efforts to track down but was well worth it. The taste is exquisite, rich and very sweet with much complexity and nutrition. Unlike most vasconcellea the outer flesh of weberbaurii fruit is edible and very enjoyable. The plants grow at 2600meters just below the frost zone so best to keep them protected in winter. The natural habitat is very humid and soil is constantly soggy but since it grows on volcanic slopes well drained soil should be best. A true treasure of the natural world.
