The creeping devil cactus has a very limited range and is rare to see. Highly unusual in its growth habit, it one of the only plants in the world that actually can move its location, it literally goes for a walk where the older portion dies it grows forward. Plants require sand and space to sprawl. They are quite tolerant to salt, growing adjacent to salt flats and saline marshes. The fruits can get tennis ball sized and are orange inside with a juicy taste.
