Ribes aureum is native to the western states. This is the subspecies gracillimum, this purple form of the golden currant tastes totally different. The flavor reminds me of other dark sweet berries. This coastal version of ribes aureum is a very compact grower and would do nice in a pot. Plants are very cold and heat tolerant. The fruit would make excellent jams or wine.
