Aka sugar sumac, this species of lemonade berry is native to the dry canyons of California. Leaves were used by the native Americans to treat cough and colds. Fruits are edible and nutritional. Quite tart, they can make a refreshing lemonade or dried to be used as a sumac spice. The plant stays as a shrub to about 6 feet. Foliage is very glossy and attractive.
