This lemonade berry grows as a short and wide shrub. 4 feet tall and 10 feet wide in age. The fruits are tart and unusually musky which is pleasant. This species along with many other rhus can be dried and powdered to use as a sumac spice for flavoring foods. These plants thrive in high heat and drought. This sub species lacks the separate leaf lobes of the common form.
