Native to Central America. The ilama fruit is an infrequently grown treasure. It really deserves to be more widely cultivated. The taste for me is like strawberry ice cream cake or Gelato with a pleasant fragrance. Texture is very smooth and creamy. About a 7/10 for sweetness. Trees are relatively short at 9feet. The natural habitat of this species has a long dry season so the seeds need to sit dry for 4-6 months before planting. Ilama is a great grower for southern CA and does best with dry roots in the winter.
